Recent and New Opportunities

In November 2023, Mel was granted the opportunity to be the Drake Women’s Basketball Emcee. This experience allows Mel to facilitate and create half-time and time-out contests. As the Emcee, Mel aims to bring hype and energy to the Knapp Center, the fans, players, and staff to enhance the game-day experience.

Mel has been a Show Choir Choreographer for two years and travels around Iowa to teach high school students choreography and dance moves that are later put together with vocals.

In the summer of 2024, Mel will begin as a RedBull student marketeer to grow brand awareness and put “cans in the hands” of Drake students and people around Des Moines.

Mel’s Hobbies and Interests

Mel loves family and friends and especially their dogs. Mel spends her time serving and attending church events at Cottage Grove. She will serve as a leader at SALT DSM which is a college ministry in Des Moines. In her free-time (which is rare) you can find her doing yoga, spending time at coffee shops with friends, or picking up random jobs or volunteer opportunities. Mel loves to be outside-when its nice out- and explore all the things Des Moines has to offer.

Mel spends lots of time watching sports and traveling all over.
Her favorite trip of this past year (2023) was to London to visit friends studying abroad. The moment that was most meaningful for her in her sports journey was when the Drake Women’s Basketball team won the Missouri Valley Conference and advanced to the first round of the NCAA tournament.
